Shoot videos that sell themselves

Five minutes of prep is the difference between crickets and a sold sign. Here's the playbook our top sellers use.

1. Clean it, stage it, light it

Wash the car, polish the ring, clear the clutter behind it. Buyers judge condition in the first frame — daylight or a bright garage beats any filter.

2. Open on the money shot

Start with the full item looking its best, then move to details. Viewers decide in 3 seconds whether to keep watching.

3. Walk around and narrate

One slow, steady lap. Say the year, mileage or condition, what's included, and why you're selling. Your voice does the trust-building a photo can't.

4. Show it working

Start the engine, zip the zipper, turn it on. Proof of function is the #1 thing buyers ask about — answer it before they ask.

5. Be upfront about flaws

Zoom in on the scratch and say so. Honest listings get fewer lowballs, faster deals, and better reviews.

Do

  • Lead with the hero shot in the first 3 seconds
  • Show flaws honestly — it builds trust and cuts haggling
  • Narrate as you film: year, condition, why you're selling
  • Film in daylight, wipe the lens first

Don't

  • Shoot vertical pans of a parked car in the dark
  • Add music over your narration
  • Pad the video — under a minute converts best
  • Skip the price in the listing — “DM for price” kills reach

Ready? Your first listing takes 60 seconds.
